Associate Consultant, bepress Consulting Services

We are looking for an associate consultant to support the students, faculty and scholars who we serve with our online solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborating with university faculty and librarians to launch new projects in their repositories, guide them in best practices, and troubleshoot unusual problems
  • Training clients over phone and email to help them use and customize our templated systems
  • Liaising with all teams at bepress to provide your clients with comprehensive, well-informed support for all their repository needs
  • Providing general assistance to the bepress team as needed. This may include, but is not limited to, filing feature requests, product testing, HTML editing, and providing feedback to help streamline or expand our services as our growing business requires.

Required qualities and capabilities

  • Bachelor's degree
  • High attention to detail
  • Basic HTML
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills—primarily for phone and email interactions/trainings
  • Ability to pick up new technologies quickly and independently
  • Deep familiarity with MSOffice programs (e.g., MS Word, Excel) and the Internet

Senior DevOps Engineer

We are looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer to help us to expand and improve our SaaS platform. We work in the academic space, helping faculty and other authors connect with their peers and community to share ideas and research. Check out our latest project SelectedWorks.

Our Environment

We have a hybrid hosting model of bare metal and AWS (currently about 50/50) and are looking for someone that has experience on both sides, with the understanding that we are actively working to move our platform entirely to AWS. Technology and tools we currently use: Ansible, Puppet (retiring), Nagios, Datadog, HAProxy, Nginx, Apache, Perl, Python, RabbitMQ, Postgres/PGPool, and ELK. Unique to our colo environment is Dell server hardware, Juniper firewalls, and MogileFS.

Our typical software stack includes Django/Python/PostgreSQL on the backend, plus HTML5/CSS3/Javascript on the front end. For services and messaging we’re using Redis, Celery and Elasticsearch among others. We're pretty big on front-end frameworks as well - Bootstrap, Angular, etc. Our legacy platform is written in Perl.

We utilize a continuous integration flow (driven off Jenkins) that includes tests, static analysis, and code reviews. We use GitHub, JIRA Agile, and Moqups as part of our daily workflow.

Skills and Requirements

Minimum six years of experience, some of that in a SaaS company a plus

Solid Systems Admin background, Linux expert

Proficiency in at least one scripting language (Bash, Perl, Python, Ruby)

Proficiency in at least one programming language (PHP, C/C++, Java)

Experience with Relational databases, such as Postgres or MySQL

Experience with caching mechanisms and unstructured data stores (Redis, Memcache, or similar technologies)

Experience with Docker

Experience with Elasticsearch or Solr

Experience with Message Queues such as (RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ, Kafka or similar technologies)

Demonstrated ability to learn new programming languages and technologies

Experience with configuration management and deployment strategies and toolsets

We’re a small, casual, hard-working marketing team looking for someone who wants to learn and grow in a flexible environment.

  • Actively seek, build, and manage outcome-focused marketing campaigns, aligning with department and company goals
  • Source, draft, and revise external-facing messages, including emails to prospective clients
  • Analyze campaign results and present findings to stakeholders within and outside of department
  • Work with team to ensure deadlines are met in a flexible, fast-paced messaging and lead-generating cycle
  • Research and present relevant trends in scholarly landscape
  • Contribute to digital copy for company website
  • Identify, recommend, and seek partnerships with relevant media outlets

Software Engineer – Full Stack

Skills and Requirements

We need developers with at least five years in the industry who know Perl well and have at least one product under their belt written in Python/Django/Javascript/Angular.

We are in the process of migrating our monolithic Perl platform to a microservices based platform; if you have experience with a similar migration, it is a huge plus. You must be willing to work in Perl through this migration. We also use RabbitMQ, memcached, Solr and plack – all slated for retirement.

Our typical stack on the new platform includes Django/Python/PostgreSQL on the backend, plus HTML5/CSS3/Javascript on the front end. Other technologies we are using: Redis, Celery, Elasticsearch, SQS, S3, Ansible, NodeJS. We're pretty big on front-end frameworks as well - Bootstrap, Angular, etc.
