We need Senior Full-Stack Engineers with proven experience designing and building scalable, high-performance web applications using diverse open source technologies. Our technologies include Perl/Plack, Python/Django, Solr, Postgres, RabbitMQ, Redis, MogileFS, YUI, JQuery, D3.

Requirements

Associate Consultant, bepress Consulting Services

We are looking for an associate consultant to support the students, faculty and scholars who we serve with our online solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborating with university faculty and librarians to launch new projects in their repositories, guide them in best practices, and troubleshoot unusual problems
  • Training clients over phone and email to help them use and customize our templated systems
  • Liaising with all teams at bepress to provide your clients with comprehensive, well-informed support for all their repository needs
  • Providing general assistance to the bepress team as needed. This may include, but is not limited to, filing feature requests, product testing, HTML editing, and providing feedback to help streamline or expand our services as our growing business requires.

Required Qualities and Capabilities

  • Bachelor's degree
  • High attention to detail
  • Basic HTML
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills—primarily for phone and email interactions/trainings
  • Ability to pick up new technologies quickly and independently
  • Deep familiarity with MSOffice programs (e.g., MS Word, Excel) and the Internet
  • Enthusiasm and a willingness to contribute beyond a narrow job description
  • Humor and patience

Preferred Qualities and Capabilities

  • 1-3 years' experience with similar responsibilities
  • Basic CSS and XML
  • Familiarity with converting MS Word documents to PDFs
  • Familiarity with academic publishing, library sciences, and university culture are big pluses

Junior Designer

Who we need

We are looking for a Junior Designer to join our growing UX team.

This role is for a confident and flexible designer with demonstrable strengths in web design, typography, branding and print. You thrive in a fast-paced environment, are unfazed by interruptions, and can adapt to quickly changing priorities and tasks. You understand that design is the result of a collaborative and iterative process. You value and respect other opinions on design and are open to constructive criticism. We need a participant more than a lone “creative genius.”

What you'll do

  • Work closely with members of the Consulting Services team to ensure that customer requests are met
  • Create all new customer site designs (includes redesigns of existing web sites) in Photoshop
  • Work with our Front End developers to ensure smooth and timely rollout of designs
  • Maintain our brand across our suite of products and services
  • Continually strive to improve the design workflow
  • Create all print collateral, work on marketing design initiatives, and other non-web design projects

Requirements

  • Deep expertise with the Adobe Creative Suite
  • This isn’t a coding role, but you should have a solid grasp of HTML and CSS
  • Demonstrated understanding of various web technologies
  • Proven ability to design for both print and web
  • Experience in corporate branding, developing different types of marketing collateral
  • Can-do attitude: Will go the extra mile to launch the best possible design
  • You are flexible, play nice with others, and are a collaborator at heart
  • Ability to solve design problems, not just apply bling
  • A degree in Graphic Design or equivalent experience
  • Design curious – passionate, observant and self-motivated
  • Strong verbal and visual communications skills: ability to present design decisions
  • Strong sense of layout composition and typography
  • Familiarity with content-heavy sites, responsive design, mobile first
