Final Manuscript Preparation Requirements for International Journal of Nursing Education Scholarship
Submission Guidelines
Original, not previously published research and expository articles about nursing education will be considered. Submissions can focus on a number of perspectives such as learners, faculty, curriculum development and evaluation, administration of nursing education programs, teaching strategies in all media, as well as issues and innovations. Manuscripts must be submitted in English. British, Canadian, or U.S. English is acceptable. Manuscripts submitted to the International Journal of Nursing Education Scholarship for review (or substantially similar manuscripts) should not be under simultaneous consideration for publication by another journal.
Although some institutions may not require ethical approval for evaluation of programs, courses, or learner experiences, it is the policy of this journal that the publication of evaluative data obtained from learners, faculty members, and other stakeholders, requires approval or endorsement from an institutional review board. If an institutional review board does not exist within the organization, this must be stated and the processes used to protect participants must be fully explained. Full disclosure about the intended use of the data to those providing it and voluntary participation in data collection are essential.
Cover Letter
For the manuscript to be reviewed, a cover letter to the editor is required, which should include the following statement: The manuscript entitled [insert title], or a substantially similar version of it, is not under consideration by another journal, nor has it been accepted or published elsewhere. Indicate whether the manuscript is research-based or expository. For research articles, provide a statement specifying that the study was approved by the institutional ethics review board. Additionally, briefly state how the manuscript contributes to knowledge development in nursing education. The manuscript will not be reviewed without this letter. If resubmitting a previously rejected manuscript, please indicate this in your cover letter.
Manuscript Preparation
When preparing an article for the International Journal of Nursing Education Scholarship, make sure the manuscript is anonymous and that there are no references to the authors or names of institutions in the body of the manuscript or reference list. If appropriate, the name of the institution can be included post review. If the manuscript, including abstract and references, is not "blind", it will be withdrawn by the editors, and authors will be required to resubmit. A blinded article includes no names of individuals or locations, or citations to publications in press that could give clues to the authorship. If appropriate, this identifying information can be inserted in manuscripts once accepted for publication. Research articles must include a statement that approval for the study was obtained from an institutional ethics review board. As well, if the article describes a commercial product or testing of a commercial product, the author must state whether remuneration or other consideration has been received from the manufacturer. This latter information should be entered into the Acknowledgements section of the submission form.
The manuscript must be created and submitted in Microsoft Word or RTF file that will be converted by Bepress into a PDF document. Do not submit a PDF version of your manuscript. The initial submission must be double-spaced. Articles will normally be a maximum of 18-20 double-spaced pages in length (inclusive of tables; exclusive of references). The SIXTH edition of American Psychological Association is the publication style used by the International Journal of Nursing Education Scholarship for manuscript organization, editorial style, citation, and referencing. Please attend to specific formatting differences from APA 6th ed. (These are primarily related to margins and headings).
Your manuscript must include the following elements and they must be uploaded to the site separate from the article body:
- Article Title in headline case.(This is an Example of Headline Case)
- An abstract of a maximum of 150 words
- Four keywords for your article
- Acknowledgements (optional)
Please adhere to the following formatting requirements when preparing your manuscript:
- Do not include the title page, page numbers, headers, or footers in the body of the manuscript. The Bepress system will add the title page, and appropriate header with page numbers. This ensures a consistent look among the articles as well as hides author identity for blind peer review.
- Acknowledgements should be entered into the appropriate field in the submission form, and not included in the body of the article. The Bepress system will incorporate these into the frontmatter of the final published article. In addition to providing a consistent look across articles, this also enables the system to hide the acknowledgements from reviewers prior to publication.
- Margins should be 1.5 inches (3.75 cm) all around not 1 inch (2.5 cm.) as per APA.
- Do not include a title on the first page.
- Font: Times New Roman
- Size: 12 point. Tables and figures may be in 10 point.
- Margins: 1.5 inches (3.75 cm) top, bottom, and sides.
- Page Size: 8.5 x 11 inches; (21.25 x 27.5 cm)
- Single column layout.
- Portrait style orientation for text and tables throughout paper.
- Landscape style orientation for tables or figures is permissible but the font may not be less than 10 point for tables and figues. Make sure tables are formatted correctly, using the Table feature in Word (not simply using indents to create columns). If the latter, they will be sent back for reformatting.
- CAPITALIZE AND CENTER LEVEL 1 HEADINGS AND SEPARATE WITH AN EXTRA SPACE
- Level 2 Headings are Italicized and at the Left Margin
- Level 3 Headings are Italicized, Indented (.5 in/1.125 cm.), and have Period at the End.
- Separate Paragraphs with an Extra Space.
- Bold all headings.
- Add an extra double space following centered headings.
- Add an extra double space between all paragraphs.
- Single space and embed all figures, tables, and illustrations in the text of the article. Do not include these as appendices.
- All graphic images should be camera-ready and professionally designed , 600 dpi using either jpeg or gif formats.
- When submitting a revision to a manuscript, you must work from the most recently uploaded WORD document. If editors have made formatting changes, these are to be retained.
Accuracy of Citations, References, and Websites
It is the author's responsibility to ensure that all citations and references (including electronic ones) are accurate, and that the format conforms to the Sixth Edition of the American Psychological Association. It is not possible for the editors to verify references; therefore, authors are advised to be rigorous in ensuring accuracy. If a cited author contacts the editors about a referencing error, that author will be referred to the article's first author. All websites must be live and accessible to readers at the time of publication. Use DOI's if available.

It is up to authors to seek editorial assistance.
