Rating System

Each submission will be considered simultaneously for these three quality-rated tiers. A submission will, however, be accepted into at most one of these tiers. Approximately 61% of papers are rejected. The publication rates and descriptions follow (note that publication rates represent the percentage of overall submissions that wind up being published in each journal).

The Advances tier publishes articles that make significant advances in theoretical economics; articles that would be suitable for publication in a top general interest journal like Econometrica or the Quarterly Journal of Economics or a top field journal such as RAND or the Journal of Economic Theory. The publication rate is 10%.

The Contributions tier publishes articles that make important contributions to specific literatures within theoretical economics; articles that would be suitable for publication in a good field journal or an established general interest journal. The publication rate is 16%.

The Topics tier publishes articles of interest to those working on specific topics within theoretical economics; articles that would be suitable for an established field journal or a respectable general interest journal. The publication rate is 13%.

Note: The Advances tier represents a merger of what was once Frontiers of Theoretical Economics, and Advances in Theoretical Economics. Older articles in Frontiers of Theoretical Economics can be found at http://www.bepress.com/bejte/frontiers.
