Berkeley Electronic Press Teams with Learned Societies to Improve Publication Workflow

The Berkeley Electronic Press (bepress) today announced two major new partnerships with learned societies. Through these agreements, the American Finance Association (AFA) and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) will license EdiKit, the editorial management system designed by bepress, to improve the publication workflow for their flagship journals.

EdiKit is an Internet-based system enabling editors to manage their tasks in an efficient manner. Routine functions such as submission-tracking, review requests, correspondence, reminders to referees, and revise-and-resubmits are managed through EdiKit. The net effect is a substantial reduction in the workload for journal editors.

The American Finance Association's Journal of Finance, the premier journal in financial economics, will employ EdiKit for all processes from submission through editor's decision. Final publication of the journal will occur after an electronic transfer of files from The Berkeley Electronic Press to Blackwell Publishers. NASPA, the leading voice for student affairs administration, policy and practice, will utilize EdiKit for every step in the publication workflow, including the ultimate posting of articles in the Internet-based NASPA Journal.

"We are quite pleased to furnish both the American Finance Association and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators with our EdiKit system," said Robert D. Cooter, co-CEO of The Berkeley Electronic Press. "The editors of their journals will save time and hassle by using EdiKit – not to mention saving a significant amount of money in the form of copying, mailing and administrative expenses. Readers, too, will benefit from a streamlined publication process."
