Download Tips
This journal allows authors to submit a variety of types of files, but not all computers are equipped with the software or hardware to view them. The following are some tips and advice about downloading our files. If you continue to experience difficulty, please contact the Support Desk of Adobe, Apple, Microsoft, or Real for further assistance.
Speed
Current operating systems and browsers will allow you to download large files relatively quickly. Outdated operating systems and browsers are not optimized to handle these files and the relevant programs. DSL or faster connections will speed downloads. Readers with dial-up connections are likely to "time-out" when downloading large files.
Viewing PDF, Video, and PowerPoint Files
Obtaining the Relevant Programs (Free Downloads)
- To view *.PDF files, download Adobe Acrobat Reader.
- To view *.MOV files, download Quicktime.
- To view *.WMV and *.MP? files, download Windows Media Player.
- To view *.MP4 files, download RealPlayer.
- To view *.PPT files, download a PowerPoint Viewer.
Problems Viewing
If you have the required program and a file is not opening when you click on it, try right-clicking and saving the program to your hard disk before trying to open it. If you continue to experience difficulty, try right-clicking, choose Open (sometimes called Open With), and select the program used to create the file.
