Symposium: Fuller and Perdue

Inaugurated June 2001

Introduction

This is the first of a series of on-line symposia designed to bring together some of the best recent work on an issue in legal scholarship. For this symposium, contributors were asked to discuss one of the most important articles that has been written about contract law: The Reliance Interest in Contract Damages by Lon Fuller and William Perdue, which is reproduced below by permission of the Yale Law Journal. The initial contributors had all recently published articles dealing with the topic of the Fuller and Perdue article. They were invited to summarize these articles, adding to them, modifying them, and updating them as they wished. Others scholars were then asked to join the discussion either by building on work they had already published or by writing something fresh. It is hoped that these on-line symposia will enable those researching an issue to find quickly some of the best and latest work on it, and those thinking about the issue to carry on an ongoing discussion with others.

Copies of The Reliance Interest in Contract Damages are available here (reprinted with the permission of the Yale Law Journal).
