Abstract

Due to the more stringent environmental requirements imposed on electric utilities, utilities must adopt new technologies for the cleaner production of electricity. This paper suggests the introduction of renewable energy and energy storage systems to fossil fueled existing electric utilities for the cleaner production of electricity with hourly emission target. A cost effective dispatching algorithm for clean and economic operation of electric utilities has been proposed. The efficacy of the proposed approach is illustrated with the help of a 25-bus, 6-generator sample utility. This paper would be useful for electric utilities, consultants, regulatory bodies, policy makers and planners.
