Book Review: Coquoz and Taroni, Preuve par l’ADN: La Genetique au Service de la Justice, Lausanne

Erica Beecher-Monas, Wayne State University Law School

Abstract

In this concise book, authors Raphael Coquoz and Franco Taroni set out an illustrated primer on the techniques of DNA identification science. Crime scene analysis is the primary focus of the book, although paternity testing is also discussed in several places. Anyone wishing for an overview of the technology of DNA profiling will find this handbook tremendously useful. It is clear, well written, and accessible. The authors manage to cover a vast array of material without losing either the nonscientists or the scientific details. They succeed in making a crucial and complex science understandable to people who may have no science background.
