ABSTRACT:

Security, interpreted as an economic good, can be provided by the state or private agents. The paper analyses (a) the impact of punishment on criminal activities, and (b) the privatization of crime control. It discusses the pros and cons of privatization and explains why privatization is on the rise. It recommends a wider use of Public-Private- Partnerships.
