Taxes under Obama and McCain

William G. Gale, Brookings Institution
Benjamin Harris, Brookings Institution

Summary

The bottom line on the tax plans of Obama and McCain are that Obama has bigger tax cuts for middle income families and modest tax hikes for the wealthy, as compared with McCain's $125,000 per family tax cut for those earning over $600,000. Neither candidate is paying enough attention to the long term need to raise taxes, according to William Gale and Benjamin Harris.
